CALDWELL, Idaho – The No. 23 Eastern Oregon University women’s basketball team forced 37 Walla Walla University turnovers in a 108-42 win at the Lady Yote Classic Friday.
The 108-point outburst from the Mountaineers (6-1) broke the J.A. Albertson Activities Center women’s basketball scoring record. It surpassed the record of 101 points scored by Corban versus The College of Idaho in 2007-08.
Brooke Randall led EOU with 16 points. The junior was 7 of 13 from the field, including 2 for 6 from behind the perimeter. Chayla Jones added 14 points and six rebounds. Dominique Johnson finished with 13 points and a season-high six assists. Kyle Miller had 11 points. Jorie Freeman and Nyesha Joseph each had seven rebounds.
The Mountaineers had a 48-4 points in the paint advantage, 47-5 points off of turnover advantage, 34-6 second-chance point advantage, and a 36-2 fast break point advantage.
Eastern Oregon shot 54 percent from the field, and held the Wolves to 36 percent shooting from the field. EOU made 10 of its 29 three-pointers, while Walla Walla was 4 of 20. The Mountaineers had a 43-31 rebounding advantage over WWU.
Eastern last scored at least 105 points Feb. 5, 2008, when it scored 106 in a win over Multnomah. The Mountaineers last threw 30 assists in the same game against Multnomah. EOU finished with 33 Friday.
The Wolves (0-8) were led by Brianna Moorer’s 17 points. She finished 7 of 9 from the field. Katelynn Taggart led WWU with six rebounds.
