EUGENE, Ore. – Four players scored in double-figures as the Northwest Christian University women’s basketball team knocked off William Jessup on Friday night, 73-63 at the Morse Event Center.

The Beacons held a three-point lead at halftime but shot 42% over the final 20 minutes to pull away for the ten point win. NCU forced 18 turnovers while coughing up the ball just nine times on their end of the floor and held the Warriors to just 21% shooting from three-point range.

Leading the way for the Beacons was Kelsey Atkins, scoring 16 points as she went 5-for-5 from three-point range to tie an NCU school record for treys. She added five rebounds and three steals. Head Coach Liz Turner-Bolton said, “We moved the ball around fairly well tonight on offense. When we find the open player we are able to do some good things. Kelsey had a great shooting night but it’s the intangibles that she does really well. She is the voice on the floor, moving people around and doing great things on both sides of the floor.”

The Beacons (8-6) got a game-high 20 point night out of junior Lindsey Shearer, who posts another double-double with ten rebounds, adding seven assists and three steals. She was 12-for-13 at the free-throw line. Also in double figures was Jess Anderson, scoring eleven and Katie Collins with ten. Aly Bruns scored nine points and had four assists.

William Jessup (0-11) was led by Rebecca Morris who scored 16 points, shooting 70% from the field. Maria Viola scored eight points and a team-high seven rebounds along with three assists, two blocks and two steals. Alyssa Wright came off the bench to score 11 points as the Warrior reserves out-scored the NCU bench, 22-7.

NCU will be back in action on December 19th for their CCC home opener against Northwest University. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
