Northwest Defeats C of I for 14th Straight Win

KIRKLAND, Wash. – No. 10 ranked Northwest University maintained their unbeaten record as they defeated the College of Idaho, 88-62, to improve to 14-0 on the season, 4-0 in league play.

Northwest would break out to an early 12-6 lead four minutes into the game, but a Rodney Delgardo jump shot at the 12:36 mark would make it a two point game, 14-12. NU would maintain a slim lead the next three minutes, but would out score C of I 14-5, to go up 28-17, with 8:20 left until halftime. Bryden Benke’s layup in the lane would make it 28-21 with 6:43 to go, but 4 straight Eagle points would return the lead to 11, 32-21, with 4:40 on the clock. A 3-pointer by Ahmaad Cook would make it 38-25 (2:06), but the Yote’s Sydney Donaldson’s trey with 31 seconds left in the half would give Northwest a 40-31 lead at the break.

 

In the second half, Northwest would maintain a 9 to 12 points lead for seven minutes, but then would begin to pull away. Leading 53-43 with 13:22 to go in the game, NU would go on a 14-1 run punctuated with jumpers by Jordan Call, Nemanja Grujicic and a 3-pointer by Ahmaad Cook to increase their lead to 23 points, 67-44, with 10:16 to go in the game. C of I’s Krispin Banks would cut the NU lead to 18, 73-55, at the 4:33 mark, but the Eagles would answer with a 9-2 run, to put the game out of reach, 82-57, with just 2:18 left on the clock.

 

Northwest U. (14-0, 4-0 CCC) was led by Ahmaad Cook’s 24 points. Sophomore Michael Greene added 13 points, Jordan call scored 12 points and Ryan Dornik contributed 11 points hitting 3 of 5 three-pointers. NU shot 53% in the first half and 47% for the game.

 

The College of Idaho’s (5-11, 0-5 CCC) Krispin Banks led the way with his 13 points. Matt Ballenger scored 9 points and Sydney Donaldson dropped in 8 points for the Coyotes who shot 48% for the game. C of I also hit 21 of 24 free throws for an 86% average from the charity stripe.

 

Both teams resume play tomorrow night as the College of Idaho plays the Evergreen state College in Olympia and Northwest U. remains at home to host Eastern Oregon. Both games a set for a 7:30 p.m. tip off.
