STATS - Concordia vs. College of Idaho
PORTLAND, Ore.—The Concordia women’s basketball dropped its second conference game in as many nights, losing 72-51 to The College of Idaho on Saturday.
College of Idaho (6-4, 1-1 CCC) used an 8-2 run right at the beginning of the second half to push what had been a 31-25 game at the break into a 39-27 advantage for the Yotes. All of the eight Yotes’ points in the run came in the paint as Laura Geis and Felicity Jones each got a pair of easy lay-ups during the stretch.
Then, after Concordia (3-6, 0-2 CCC) cut the Yotes’ lead to nine, C of I put the game out of reach with a 20-1 run that spanned five-and-a-half minutes in the second half. Concordia wouldn’t cut the lead to less than 21 points from there as the Yotes secured their first CCC win of the season.
Unfortunately for the Cavs, the Yotes’ strong start to the second half came after Concordia had crawled back into the game. Concordia struggled to produce offense at the start of the game as C of I ran out to a 20-6 lead with 10:57 remaining. However, the Cavs scored 11 of the next 13 to cut the C of I lead to 22-17 with 7:05 left to go. The Concordia offense finally found easy buckets during the stretch as eight of the 11 points either came in the paint or from the free throw line.
Overall, the College of Idaho defense gave the Cavs fits throughout the game as the Yotes outshot CU 50.8-to-32.1 percent from the field. On the plus side, Concordia did stay even with the Yotes in rebounds, only ceding a slight 35-31 advantage on the glass. In addition, the Cavs out-rebounded the Yotes offensively 13-12.
Still, C of I got lots of easy buckets in the game as the Yotes outscored the Cavs in the paint 46-26.
Individually, C of I’s Jones led all scorers with 22 points, while three other Yotes scored in double-figures in Tina Fakahafua with 14, Megan Hughes with 13 and Geis with 10. In addition, Hughes grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and Geis blocked four shots for the Yotes.
For Concordia, Gabi Beyer led the way with 14 points, while Brittney Yates added 10. Beyer also tied C of I’s Fakahafua with a game-high five steals.
Both teams will now step out of conference for their next games. The College of Idaho will next face Montana Western at home on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 4 p.m., while Concordia will travel to Linfield on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m.
