LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women’s basketball team picked up a Senior Night win over Northwest Christian University Saturday, 69-52.
The Mountaineers (16-9) (8-8) were led by a double-double performance from Rosebud Guthrie. The sophomore finished with a team-high 13 points and 10 rebounds. Guthrie shot 5 for 9 from the field. Kyle Miller, Samantha Flett, and Kelsea Hurliman each added 12 points.
Eastern shot 48 percent from the field in the victory. The Mountaineers made 9 of their 17 shots from behind the perimeter, and 12 of their 16 attempts from the free-throw line.
The game featured five lead changes, all coming in the first half, and four ties. The Beacons led by as many as three points three times in the first half. Eastern Oregon’s largest lead was four points twice, including at halftime, 29-25. The Mountaineers improved to 15-1 this season when they lead their opponent at halftime.
EOU never lost the lead in the second half. The Mountaineers stretched their lead to 37-30 just into the second half at the 17:10 mark with a Guthrie free-throw. A lay-up from Jessica Kramer with 1:21 remaining in regulation gave Eastern its largest lead of the game, 69-50.
The Mountaineers were outrebounded, 34 to 33, and committed 15 turnovers to Northwest Christian’s 14. EOU had a 16 to 12 assists advantage over the Beacons.
Hope Williams scored a game-high 22 points to lead NCU (10-17) (6-11). She added a game-high 14 rebounds as well. Sheena Alexander chipped in 12 points. Northwest Christian shot 35 percent from the field and 11 of 18 from the free-throw line. The Beacons were held to 1 for 13 from behind the arc.
Eastern travels to Northwest University Friday for its next game. The game is one of many key matchups in the final weekend of the regular season for Cascade Collegiate Conference teams. With the conference tournament the following week, each game becomes important. The top three teams each have 12 wins in CCC play, the next two teams are 9-7 in league play, and EOU and Southern Oregon are 6-6.
