SALEM, Ore. – Junior Emily Tsugawa (Gladstone, Ore.) wasted little time in showing why she is the reigning CCC Offensive Player of the Year, as she scored both goals in Corban's season-opening 2-0 win over Trinity International Thursday at Warrior Field.

With today's victory, Corban improves to 1-0-0 and extends its unbeaten streak in season openers to three straight dating back to 2008. Meanwhile, Trinity International opens its 2011 campaign at 0-1-0.

"Today was a good first win against a quality opponent," said head coach Marty Ziesemer. "Trinity International really put us under pressure for a good bit of the game, but we were able to hang on and get the win. We will use this game to continually improve and get better as the season progresses."

In a very evenly played opening 45 minutes, Corban got on the scoreboard first when Tsugawa teamed with sophomore Tera McDonough (Boise, Idaho) for her first goal of the season in the 13th minute. McDonough would collect the ball on the far sideline before dribbling towards the goal and sending a perfectly placed through ball onto the awaiting foot of Tsugawa, who calmly cracked a one-timer from 20 yards out into the back of the net for the eventual game-winner.

Neither team would score again until the 75th minute when Tsugawa netted her second goal of the game off an assist from sophomore Audrey Sullivan (Puyallup, Wash.). After breaking free from the Lady Trojans' defense, Sullivan would send a crossing pass across the mouth of the goal to Tsugawa where she capitalized on a tap-in from five yards out to put the Warriors up by two goals.

Trinity International would not put up much of a fight over the final 15 minutes, as Corban's defense held strong with freshman goalkeeper Kaitlyn Mendenhall (Windsor, Calif.) registering three saves en route to picking up her first career victory in shutout fashion.

Overall, Corban would outshoot Trinity International by six shots (13-7) and would put four more shots (7-3) on goal than the Lady Trojans. Offensively, the host Warriors would earn six corner kicks to TIU's two.

Trinity International was led offensively by seven different players that recorded a shot, while goalie Elizabeth Burynski registered a game-high five saves despite allowing two goals.

Corban will return to the field on Tuesday, August 23rd, when they travel to Montana for a 5:00 p.m. contest against Frontier Conference member Great Falls.
