KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The Oregon Tech women’s soccer team kicked off the 2011 season Monday afternoon, falling at Trevor Derrah Field 2-1 to nationally ranked No. 9 The Master’s College.

Oregon Tech started the afternoon strong in the early minutes of the match but failed to capitalize on several opportunities. The Mustangs then launched a very aggressive attack, firing 14 first half shots on Oregon Tech Freshman Goalie Rebekah Matteri. Matteri was up to the challenge, blocking or saving multiple shots before Natasha Coyle powered a shot from 15 feet out that deflected off an Oregon Tech defender and found its way into the back of the net in the 31st minute to give the visitors the early 1-0 lead.

Coyle was at it again just seven minutes later as she took her own deflected shot and put it into the back of the net giving the Mustangs a 2-0 lead as the two teams headed to the break.

Oregon Tech started the second half as the aggressor and in the 50th minute was rewarded as a hand ball was called on a Mustang defender inside the box giving the Lady Owls a penalty kick. Oregon Tech’s Meghan Drost made the most of the PK scoring in the bottom left hand of the goal to make it 2-1.

The Master’s defense dug in and didn’t allow Oregon Tech to get any closer, holding Oregon Tech to only 2 shots and none on goal over the final 20 minutes as the Mustangs held on to win 2-1.

Bobbie Roberts led The Master’s with 6 shots, 3 on goal, with the team totaling 20 shots on the afternoon, 10 on frame.

The Mustangs out shot Oregon Tech 20-5 for the game and also had a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Oregon Tech (0-1) will next host Linfield College on September, 3rd at 1:00 pm.

No. 9 The Master’s College will next play at William Jessup University on Wednesday, August 24th in Rocklin, California.
