REDDING, Calif. – Southern Oregon scored a pair of goals in each half as the Raiders picked up a 4-1 non-conference victory over Holy Names Sunday afternoon at Simpson University.

The win improves SOU’s record to 3-3 overall. The Raiders return to action Sept. 16, when SOU hosts Westmont at 1 p.m. at University Field.

“I’m proud of our team for putting together a very complete game today,” SOU head coach Jon Clement said. “There were moments of really top-quality play sprinkled through the game and our goals were all very good goals.”

Southern Oregon took an early 1-0 lead when Stephanie Carr rebounded the ball off the Holy Names goalkeeper right in front of the goal and knocked it in during the 11th minute. Chloe Welch added the eventual game-winner in the 11th minute with a close shot off a pass from Denise Powell on the right side of the goal to give SOU the 2-0 advantage.

The Raiders added two more goals in a couple-minute stretch during the second half. Carr scored SOU’s second goal on a penalty kick and Jacquie Galvez picked up a goal on a pass from Stacey Hamer two minutes later to give SOU the 4-0 lead with 15 minutes remaining in the second half.

Holy Names scored a late goal in the final 10 minutes to end the SOU shutout, but that was all the Hawks could muster against the Raider defense. Southern Oregon had an opportunity to play almost all its players in the contest, helping keep the Raiders fresh with temperatures in the mid-90s.

“It was great to have the whole roster contribute and keep the rhythm and tempo high for 90 minutes,” Clement said. “Now we’re looking forward to Westmont.”
