SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Ameenah Issa chipped a 15-yard strike into the net with just under 20 minutes remaining, lifting No. 25 ranked Kansas Wesleyan past The College of Idaho, 1-0, in a battle of Coyotes at Dumke Field.
KWU (4-1), which held a 15-7 edge in total shots, had a pair of scoring chances early in the second half – as Monique Orocio hit the left post on a header in the 48th minute, with a drive by Hannah Kern a minute later clanked off the right post.
In the 72nd minute, Kern played a ball to Issa, who chipped a ball over the head of C of I (2-2) keeper Aimee Pierson for the lone goal of the match. The Yotes had three chances to tie, but Karina Albarran snuffed out shots by Chelsea Heffner, Jessica Ayala, and Natasha Rooney, to log her second shutout of the season.
The Lady Yotes return to action tomorrow morning with an 11 a.m. match-up with Westminster College.
