Dayna Drager had 15 points in Lady Yotes win
CALDWELL, Idaho - Dayna Drager scored a season-high 15 points, helping The College of Idaho to their fourth-straight victory, a 60-49 win over Northwest University inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
The Coyotes (15-7, 10-3 CCC) used a record-setting first-half defensive effort to improve their record to 6-0 in home Cascade Conference games, remaining a game back of Eastern Oregon and Corban for the top spot in the league standings. The victory was No. 199 in head coach Reagan Rossi's 11-year career.
Carol Howard hit an early three-pointer for the Eagles (9-12, 5-8), giving NU a 5-4 lead with 17 minutes left in the opening frame - but the visitors would make just 1-of-24 field goal attempts the rest of the period. Diamond Mitchell, Katelin Shannon, and Drager hit back-to-back-to-back treys, capping a 16-0 run, as the Yotes took a 29-9 lead to the break. The nine points scored by NU was the fewest points in a period allowed by The C of I at home in the 17-year history of the program - and fewest since allowing seven points in each half of a 127-14 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay during the 1997 season.
NU rallied in the second half, as three-straight Jessalyn Jackson baskets fueled a 13-0 run, as the Eagles closed within 35-25 with 13:31 left. However, the spurt was short-lived, as Felicity Jones hit a jumper and recorded a steal and basket, with Drager hitting a pair of triples and a trio of free throws, as the Yotes re-established a 48-27 lead and cruised to the win.
Drager was a perfect 3-of-3 from outside the arc in the win, with Jones adding 13 points, nine rebounds, and four steals.
Jackson led all players with 24 points, 11 rebounds, and six blocked shots, with Howard adding 15 points.
The C of I returns to action next Friday with a road match-up at Northwest Christian.
