Felicity Jones scored 16 in Lady Yotes win over Corban
CALDWELL, Idaho - Felicity Jones scored a game-high 16 points, including a key three-pointer with 1:27 remaining, helping the Lady Yotes to a 66-60 victory over No. 22 ranked Corban, inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
The Lady Yotes (10-6, 5-2 CCC), who remain unbeaten at home in Cascade Conference play, erased a five-point Corban lead midway through the second half, recording their second win this season against a Top-25 team.
Playing without CCC Preseason Player of the Year, Katie Steigleman, the Warriors (10-5, 4-2) took a 50-45 lead on a Shayla Fetters triple with just over eight minutes to go. Jones would respond with a pair of buckets in a 10-2 C of I run to take the lead for good. Leading 60-58 late, Jones canned a three-pointer as the shot clock expired, with the Yotes hitting 3-of-4 free throws to ice the win.
The C of I trailed early in the first half, making just 2-of-13 shots from the field, as Corban got eight Tara VanWeerdhuizen points to take a 14-8 lead. The Yotes would rally, as a Tina Fakahafua three-point play with three minutes left in the period gave the hosts their first lead at 23-21.
Fakahafua had 13 points and seven rebounds in the win, with Katelin Shannon tallying 11 points. Meghan Hughes had a game-high 11 rebounds for the Lady Yotes, who hit 15-of-20 free throws on the night.
Corban, which saw a six-game win streak snapped, were led by Tess Bennett's 16 points, with VanWeerdhuizen scoring 14 points and 14 rebounds. The Warriors hit just 24-of-70 shots from the field and committed 18 turnovers.
The Yotes return to action tomorrow night, hosting Northwest Christian at 5:30 p.m.
