Calhoun’s Career High Carries WPC Past Northwest
PORTLAND, Ore. – Cameryn Calhoun scored a career high 31 points, including four makes from three point range, to lead Warner Pacific past Northwest University 83-72 at Bart Valentine Court tonight.
The Knights improve to 10-7 overall and 4-2 in Cascade Conference play. The Eagles fall to 6-8 and 2-4.
NU scored the first two baskets of the game, but the Knights caught fire quickly and built an 18-11 lead after six minutes were gone off the clock. Calhoun was particularly hot, hitting a trio of three pointers and scoring 12 of the first 18 for WPC. The lead for the hosts reached as many as 10 (24-14) before Northwest stormed back to take the lead at 30-28 on a Emily Drivstuen trey. The Knights would right the ship and rallied to enjoy a 47-39 advantage at half-time.
Warner Pacific continued to score the ball well after the break and led the whole 20 minutes, but the Eagles didn’t make it easy. A Calhoun bucket at the 17:14 mark gave WP their largest lead at 55-41, but a 7-0 run from NU trimmed the gap back down to seven. The teams traded buckets for much period until a deuce from Eagle Domi Mendezona brought NU within 73-68 to give the Knights a little heartburn. Four free throws from Calhoun and a pair from Morgan Wolff gave WP some breathing room which allowed the Knights to secure the 83-72 win.
Calhoun finished 9 of 11 from the field, and made 9 of 11 free throws to register her career high. Chelsey Christensen added 14 points, while Nichole Jackson tallied eight points and six assists. The Knights finished the game 48 percent (30-62) from the field.
Jessalyn Jackson dropped in 24 points for Northwest, and added a game high 15 rebounds and four blocks. Mendezona contributed 12 points and six rebounds.
