Oregon Tech's Rey Chavolla (right) Shoots game winning Goal
(KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.) – Oregon Tech got two second half goals from Rey Chavolla and Head Coach Matt Munhall picked up his first collegiate win as the Owls knocked off Northwest Christian Saturday afternoon at Trevor Derrah Field.
Oregon Tech moves to 1-5-0 in CCC play and 1-8-1 on the season with the win. Northwest Christian drops to 1-6-2 in CCC play and 3-8-2 overall.
After a scoreless first half, Oregon Tech broke through for a 1-0 lead in the 70th minute when Brian Stinchcomb headed a pass to Ashton Betts. Betts then sent a short pass over to Rey Chavolla who scored from 2 yards out for what eventually would be the game winning goal.
Chavolla gave OIT some breathing room in the 87th minute as he again took a Betts’ pass from the right side and scored from 10 yards out giving Tech the 2-0 win.
For the game, each team had 15 shots with OIT having a big 8-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Oregon Tech Goal Keeper Tanner Lee picked up the shut out win as he was credited with 3 saves.
Oregon Tech will next hit the road playing at No 18 Concordia (10-2-1, 9-0 CCC) and Warner Pacific (5-7-1, 4-4-1) next weekend in Portland. Northwest Christian will play host to Evergreen in Eugene, Ore. at 6:00pm on October 17.
