BOX SCORE

SALEM, Ore. – Corban's Tyler Hagen scored a pair of second half goals and goalkeeper Steven Mason registered his second straight shutout, as the Warriors moved into sole possession of fourth place in the league standings thanks to a 2-0 win over the visiting Eagles of Northwest Wednesday at Warrior Field.

With today's win, Corban improves to 6-5-3 overall and 5-4-1 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Meanwhile, Northwest had its three-game winning streak snapped falling to 8-5-1 overall and 6-4-0 in league games. Today's victory also moved Corban ahead of Warner Pacific into fourth place all alone in the current league standings, as the Warriors are now in the playoff picture with four games remaining in the regular season.

"Today we had a very good performance against an excellent side," said head coach Paul Meehan. "I felt our defending was quite solid once again, and we created some very dangerous opportunities. I'm proud of the guys and now we need to focus om getting ready for Saturday."

Neither team would score in the opening half, as Corban registered 13 shots with the best scoring opportunity coming in the 23rd minute when Hagen took a short pass from Derik Chaney and unleashed a shot from point-blank range that sailed up and over the cross bar keeping the game scoreless.

In the second half, Northwest nearly took the lead in the 66th minute when Corey Wyatt headed home a throw-in from James Kerr only to have the goal waived off after the sideline official declared that Kerr had stepped over the sideline before letting go of the ball.

Just over three minutes later, Corban would get on the board when Hagen netted his third goal of the season off a pass from fellow Aaron Kinnes at the 69:28 mark. The scoring play would begin when Kinnes sent a crossing pass into the 18-yard box where Hagen was waiting to one-time a shot into the lower left corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead for the home team.

Forty-six seconds later, Hagen would add an insurance goal off an assist from Juan Castillo for a two-goal lead for the Warriors at the 70:12 mark. Castillo would send a through ball behind Northwest's defense to a wide-open Hagen, who dribble around the Eagles' diving keeper before depositing a shot into the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season.

Neither team would have much of a scoring opportunity over the game final twenty-plus minutes with both teams registering a single shot.

Mason would extend his scoreless streak to 220-plus minutes thanks to a pair of saves en route to recording his third shutout of the season, while Northwest's goalkeeper Joe Galbraith tallied a game-high seven saves despite allowing both goals.

Offensively, Corban controlled the flow registering 19 more shots (24-to-5) than Northwest that included a 9-to-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Warriors also earned four more corner kicks (9-to-5) with both teams being whistled for six fouls in a very cleanly played game.

Corban will return to action on Saturday, October 20th, against the visiting Geoducks of The Evergreen State College beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Warrior Field in Salem. Meanwhile, Northwest will travel south to take on Northwest Christian in a game on Saturday beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Springfield.
