Eagles Score Early, Hold on to Shut Out EOU
KIRKLAND, Wash. – Senior Stephanie Cummins’ header found its mark in the 2nd minute of play and the goal held up as Northwest University shut out Eastern Oregon, 1-0, in Cascade Conference play this afternoon.
Cummins score came just 1:23 into the game as she took Shea Samuelsen’s corner kick and headed it in from 6 yards out on the right side. The teams battled without a score in the following 88 minutes as neither team would find the goal. Both teams would only have two shots on goal. Northwest U. held the edge on shots, 13-10 and in corner kicks, 8 to 2.
Northwest U. (5-8-2) improves to 4-1-1 in league play and the win puts them into a tie for second place with Oregon Tech. Eastern Oregon falls to 1-5 in CCC play and 1-12 on the year.
The Eagles wrap up their regular season home schedule tomorrow with another CCC game against the College of Idaho at 3 p.m. Tomorrow is Senior Day and eight NU seniors will be honored in a pre-game ceremony. Eastern Oregon travels to Olympia and will play Evergreen on Saturday at 3 p.m.
