Raiders Need Overtime to Get Past Warner Pacific
PORTLAND, Ore. – Stephanie Carr scored her 9th goal of the year with 1:33 left in the first overtime period to send Southern Oregon past Warner Pacific, 3-2 at David Douglas High School.
The goal capped a wild afternoon, as the teams traded goals in the final minute of regulation to send the contest to extra time.
The host Knights (1-7, 0-2 CCC) struck first in the 8th minute, as a well-executed counter attack ended with Christina Mah scoring from close range. Trisha Durham was credited with the assist after a nice crossing pass.
SOU (6-3-2, 2-0-1 CCC) had to wait until the 63rd minute to respond and equalized thanks to the foot of Megan McArthur, who collected a bouncing ball in the box and finished point blank.
With under a minute to play, Julie Zamzow broke free for a one on one with new WP goalkeeper Kaysee Genovese and slid it home for the apparent game-winner. The game was prolonged however, as just 27 seconds later the Knights’ Ranie Gramm kicked a rolling ball through the Raider defense that slipped under the foot of SOU’s netminder and across the line to tie the game at 2-2.
That set up Carr’s overtime heroics and rescued all three points for the visiting Raiders.
SOU will face #1 ranked Concordia tomorrow, while Warner Pacific will host Oregon Tech as CCC play rolls on.
