(KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.) – Northwest University scored the game winning goal with just 9 minutes remaining in regulation to get past Oregon Tech 2-1 in a Cascade Conference matchup at Trevor Derrah Field. Northwest improves to 7-4-1 on the season and 5-3 in CCC play with the win. Oregon Tech played tough but falls to 0-10-1 on the season and 0-7 in CCC play.
Northwest opened up the scoring in the 20
th minute on a nifty double assist goal. Alex Taylor headed a pass to the feet of James Kerr who redirected the ball to Josh Peters; Peters then scored from 15 feet out in front of the OIT goal.
The two teams would battle the rest of the half with Oregon Tech out shooting the Eagles 9-5 but still trailed on the scoreboard 1-0 heading to the break.
Oregon Tech came out of the break with purpose, and got the result they were looking for as Ashton Betts took a pass from Marvin Garay, dribbled around the keeper and finished from 5 yards out to tie the game 1-1 in the 51
st minute.
The two teams would play a physical next 30 minutes with each team getting some good looks at goal but hard defensive play would win the advantage keeping each team off the scoreboard.
Northwest would finally breakthrough in the 82
nd minute as Alex Taylor picked up a loose a ball and took a couple quick dribbles before putting away the game winning goal from 30 yards out, striking a heavy ball that deflected off the hands of the OIT Keeper giving Northwest the 2-1 win.
Oregon Tech out shot Northwest 19-11 and had a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Northwest Keeper Joe Galbraith picked up the win with 6 saves.
Oregon Tech will next host Northwest Christian (3-7-2, 1-5-2 CCC) Saturday, October 13 at 4:00 pm. Northwest will home to Kirkland, WA to host Warner Pacific (5-6-1, 4-3-1 CCC) on Saturday, October 13 at 3:00 pm.
