ASHLAND – Southern Oregon scored the first 13 points and never looked back as the Raiders defeated Pacific Union 97-25 in a nonconference women’s basketball game Monday evening at Bob Riehm Arena.
Southern Oregon improves to 3-0 with the win, while Pacific Union drops its first game of the 2012-13 season. The Raiders head to Klamath Falls this weekend for a pair of games at the Oregon Tech Tournament before returning home Sunday to host Hope International at 4 p.m.
The Raiders shot 55.2 percent (33-of-67) in the contest while limiting Pacific Union to 17 percent shooting (9-of-53), and SOU out-rebounded the visitors 61-to-23.
Freshman Carly Meister stepped up to lead the Raiders, scoring 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting and grabbing 12 rebounds in only 24 minutes of court time. Angelica Cahee added 12 points and nine rebounds, while Melissa Sweat finished with 11 points and Allison Gida tallied 10. Alejandra Gallardo led Pacific Union with 14 points, playing all 40 minutes for the Pioneers.
