ASHLAND –
College of Idaho scored 13 of the first 15 points and led the whole way as the 22nd-ranked Coyotes defeated Southern Oregon 95-82 in Cascade Collegiate Conference women’s basketball action Saturday night at Bob Riehm Arena.

Southern Oregon falls to 12-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play, while College of Idaho improves to 7-5 overall and 3-1 in the CCC. Both teams return to action Friday, with the Raiders traveling to Portland to take on Concordia and the Yotes hosting Northwest at 5:30 p.m.

Alexi Smith and Felicity Jones tied for the game-high point total as both players tallied 25. Melissa Sweat added 21 points for the Raiders, while Allison Gida finished with 13 and Carly Meister added 10. Katelin Sahnnon scored 19 points for the Yotes, with Dayna Drager adding15, Laura Geis totaling 14 and Chakala Carthen adding 10.

College of Idaho forced turnovers on the first three SOU possessions as the Yotes claimed a quick 13-2 lead and pushed it to 22-6 just over six minutes into play. Southern Oregon closed the half on a 12-5 run to pull within single-digits at 45-36 going into halftime.

The Raiders continued the run to open the second period, scoring 10 of the first 14 points to draw within three at 49-46. That would prove to be the closest SOU would get, however, as College of Idaho followed with a 15-5 run to push the advantage back to 13 at 64-51, and the Yotes led by at least 11 points the rest of the way.
