Anthony Brown helped EOU to 78-60 win at C of I
CALDWELL, Idaho - Travares Peterson led four Eastern Oregon players in double figures with 19 points, as the Mountaineers kept hold of the I-84 Cup traveling trophy with a 78-60 victory over The College of Idaho, inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
The Mountaineers (16-9, 9-7 CCC) got a Peterson dunk and a Jamar Johnson trey in a 10-0 run early in the contest to build a 10-2 lead. The C of I would close within 16-14 on a Zach Peterson triple, but a Johnson three-pointer extended the lead to 30-19, as EOU took a 41-30 lead to the locker room.
Johnson and Anthony Brown each hit three's, with an alley-oop dunk by Peterson capping an 8-0 run, as the visitors extended the lead to 53-35 with 15:52 remaining. The Coyotes (9-18, 4-12) would chip away at the lead, cutting the margin to 66-56 on a Krispin Banks bucket with four minutes to play, but could not get closer.
Johnson had 18 points and eight rebounds in the win for EOU, with Brown scoring 17 and Trent Roos adding 11 off the bench. The Mounties hit 11-of-23 three-point attempts on the night.
Banks led the Yotes with 18 points and 11 rebounds - the first double-double by a Coyote this season, with Ben Van Lith adding 10 points and five boards. Matt Ballenger made his return to the line-up after missing six games with turf toe, scoring seven points and adding four steals. The C of I turned the ball over 19 times and hit just 3-of-17 shots from long range.
The Yotes close out the regular-season next weekend with home games vs. Concordia and Warner Pacific.
