The Southern Oregon softball team continued its successful run at the SOU Tournament Saturday afternoon, as the Raiders shut out Great Falls 8-0 in five innings at US Cellular Fields.

Southern Oregon, 6-3 overall this season, will close out the tournament with a pair of contests tomorrow, playing Simpson at 11 a.m. and Great Falls at 1 p.m.

Julia Willison finished with two hits, and both Willison and Irene Barrantes drove in three runs for the Raiders. Chelsea Talbert pitched a five-inning one-hit shutout, striking out six and walking one in the win. Great Falls’ Nicole Banach dropped a one-out single into left field in the first inning, and Talbert did not allow a hit the rest of the way.

The Raiders scored four runs on three hits in the opening frame. Kara Kelsey led off with an infield single, and Melissa Corn reached on an error while bunting Kelsey to second. Katie Moy wawlked to load the bases, and Barrantes hit a ground-rule double down the right field line to give SOU the early 2-0 advantage. One out later, Willison singled through the right side to score Moy and Barrantes and put the Raiders up 4-0.

Southern Oregon added a run in the second as Corn opened the inning with a base hit and came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Barrantes. The Raiders picked up three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to earn the victory. Stephanie Vandenbusch and Willison hit back-to-back doubles and Alyssa Miller followed with a single to put runners on the corners with no outs. Miller stole second and advanced to third on a groundout that scored Willison to make it 7-0. With two outs Kelsey reached on an error that brought Miller home with the game-clinching run.
