Jackson Leads Northwest Over Concordia
KIRKLAND, Wash. - Senior Jessalyn Jackson’s 25 points and 18 rebounds led Northwest University to a 76-58 victory over Concordia in Cascade Conference play tonight in the Pavilion. Jackson now has 1,267 career points and has recorded 16 double-doubles for the season.
After a low scoring 12 minutes of the first half and with the game tied at 15-15, Northwest would slowly increase their lead to 33-22 with 2:45 to go in the period after a Carol Howard steal and layup, but Concordia would out score NU 6-2 in the final two minutes of the half to make it 35-28 at the break.
Concordia would start the second half by cutting into the Eagle lead and making it a two point ball game, 37-25, as Rachel Scarpelli hit her first shot of the game. Scarpelli, the Cavs leading scorer, was scoreless in the first half, but drained her first shot of the second -- a 3 pointer. At the 14:15 mark Scarpelli would hit a jumper to cut the NU lead to 42-41, but the Eagles would then go on a 9-3 run to increase their lead to 7 points, 51-44, with 11:16 left in the game. A trey by Mari Gonzalez and layup in the paint by Jackson would increase the Eagle lead to 12, 58-46 at the 8:56 mark and Northwest would continue to pull away from the Cavaliers for the 76-58 victory.
In addition to Jackson’s double-double, Northwest’s (10-12, 6-8 CCC) Emily Drivstuen scored 15 points and grabbed 9 rebounds while teammate, Carol Howard scored 14 points and handed out 4 assists. NU out rebounded Concordia 42-34 which included 19 offensive rebounds. The Eagles shot 45% for the game, 49% in the second half.
Concordia (7-17, 3-10 CCC) was led by Courtney May’s 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists as she shot 50% for the night. Malori Dixon added 9 points and Rachel Scarpelli totaled 8 points for the Cavaliers who shot 39% for the game, but managed only 6% (1 for 18) from the 3 point line.
“I felt we had a great week of practice and was really excited for this weekend,” said Lori Napier, NU head coach. “It was good to see this players executing what we had practiced.”
NU remains at home and will host Warner Pacific in their final regular season home game. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. Concordia travels to Olympia tomorrow night to take on the Evergreen State College.
