Concordia Sweeps Southern Oregon 6-1 and 4-0
ASHLAND – Concordia limited Southern Oregon to one run as the Cavaliers swept a Saturday doubleheader against the Raiders, taking 6-1 and 4-0 decisions from the Raiders in Cascade Collegiate Conference softball action at University Field.
Southern Oregon falls to 16-14 overall and 6-8 in conference play, while Concordia improves to 16-16 overall and 7-5 in the CCC. The Raiders honored their three seniors – Brooke Springer, Jordyn Kurtz and Katie Moy – prior to the first game as SOU closed out the home portion of the 2012 regular season. Both teams wore pink as Southern Oregon and Providence partnered to host Strike Out Breast Cancer, with more than $100 raised for breast cancer research.

Ashley Suter limited Southern Oregon to one run in the complete-game victory, and Concordia scored three runs in the third inning and added three more in the top of the seventh. Kurtz took the loss for Southern Oregon, yielding three earned runs on 11 hits with seven strikeouts.
Four Cavaliers tallied multiple hits, as Sam Genskay, Tobey Varney, Kyndell Andrews and Jordyn Brown each went 2-for-4, while Jessica Flores finished with a pair of hits for the Raiders in the loss.
The Cavs took the lead in the third inning, scoring three runs on four hits in the frame. Jennifer Lutton singled to open the inning, and Genskay dropped a hit into left field one out later. Varney followed with a double down the left field line to score both runners, and she came in to score on Andrews’ double to center.
Southern Oregon scored its lone run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Moy led off with a double to left center, and two outs later Flores pushed an RBI single through the left side to make it 3-1.
Concordia took advantage of three SOU errors to add three more runs in the top of the seventh inning. Genskay doubled down the left field line and Andrews and Laura Luther reached on back-to-back errors to load the bases. Kate Santos reached on an infield single to score the first CU run of the inning, and two more came in on the Raiders’ third error of the inning.

Concordia scored two runs in the second and two more in the fourth, and Jordyn Brown limited SOU to four hits in a complete-game shutout. Karlie Stephens yielded four runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings to take the loss. Genskay finished with three hits and Luther added two more in the win.
The Cavaliers took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Brown and Mary Lugar hit back-to-back singles, and Lutton doubled down the left field line to score Brown from second. Lugar scored CU’s second run on Genskay’s infield single.
A pair of doubles by Genskay and Santos helped the Cavs score two more in the top of the fifth. Genskay opened with a double to left and came in to score on Luther’s two-out single. Santos followed with a double to score Luther from first and give CU the 4-0 lead.
