SPOKANE, Wash. – Sophomore Katherine Salness registered her second double-double of the season thanks to 22 assists and 10 digs, but it was not enough as Corban's women's volleyball team fell in three sets to No. 21-ranked Carroll, 3-0 (20-25, 15-25, 20-25), Friday at the Red Lion Cascade/Frontier Challenge at the HUB Sports Center.

With tonight's results, Corban drops its third straight match to open the 2012 season. Meanwhile, Carroll improves to 4-2 overall that includes a perfect 3-0 showing at the RLC Challenge.

Along with Salness' performance, senior Chandra Teague led all offensive players for the Warriors with nine kills and a team-high 13 digs to go along with an eight-kill performance by sophomore Claire Bailey. Defensively, freshman libero Hannah Flores tallied nine digs with junior Jenny Harman controlling the Warriors' net with a match-high three blocks.

Corban would open the match on a 10-4 run that concluded with a service ace by Teague before Carroll used an 10-4 run that knotted things at 14-all thanks to a kill by Kathleen Mulligan. The Fighting Saints would continue to apply the offensive pressure, as Carroll increased its lead to five points (21-16) on a Natalie Stewart kill. Corban would get as close as two points (21-19) thanks to a mini 3-0 run that concluded with a Carroll hitting error, but the Fighting Saints were too much for the Warriors scoring three of the set's final four points en route to earning the five-point victory (25-20).

Set #2 was a back-and-forth battle over the opening few points resulting in a 4-4 tie before Carroll used a 19-10 run that resulted in a nine-point lead (23-14) on a Rebecca Sweeney kill. Junior Karisa Legg would record a kill for Corban, but the Fighting Saints' lead was too much as Carroll scored the final two points for the 25-15 victory.

The third and final set would be a dog fight over the opening 20 combined points, as Bailey tied the score at 10-10 before Carroll used a 9-2 run en route to securing a seven-point lead (19-12). No wanting to go quietly into the night, Corban battled back to within three points (21-18) thanks to a 6-2 run that concluded on a combo block by Bailey and junior Olivia Shropshire forcing Carroll to call a timeout. Following the break in action, the Fighting Saints ended the match on a 4-2 run that included three kills by Sweeney with the night's final swing coming from the freshman outside hitter for the 25-20 victory.

Mulligan would lead Carroll offensively with 13 kills, while Elli Graff added 12 kills. Stewart controlled the Fighting Saints' attack with a match-high 23 assists, while Sweeney anchored Carroll's defense with a match-high 19 digs to go along with seven kills on 22 swings without an error.

Corban will begin its final day of competition at the first-ever Red Lion Cascade/Frontier Challenge tomorrow – Saturday, August 25th – against nationally-ranked Great Falls beginning at noon inside the HUB Sports Center in Spokane, Washington.
