KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University and Menlo College (Calif.) played 110 minutes and to a 1-1 draw this afternoon in Kirkland. The day proved to be a doubleheader of double overtimes as both the Northwest University men and women played double overtime ties today.

Menlo came out pressuring and attacking from the start of the first half with five shots in the first 7:52 of play and it was the fifth shot that found its mark as Andrew Cota put a blast from 30 yards out from the left side to the opposite side of the goal and past the NU goalkeeper. Just one minute before the score, another Cota shot was saved by Joe Galbraith, NU goalie. Menlo would dominate the shot column with 13 shots to one for Northwest. The Oaks from Atherton, Calif., would take a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Northwest would pick up their pace in the second half and it would pay off as Tim Filion would score off a rebound from  the goalkeeper from 9 yards out at the 55:19 mark. Menlo would play a man short as Carlos Ramirez would be issued a red card and would leave the game at the 81:19 mark. NU would have an opportunity for the game winner in the 84 minute as James Kerr’s shot would be knocked away by the goalie, Josh Peters would have his shot on the rebound knocked away and James Kerr would hit his shot wide left in a bang-bang-bang play in front of the goal mouth, 8 yards out. Two great saves by MC’s goalie, Alex Palomarez. Menlo’s Andrew Cota missed a great opportunity for his second as his kick would hit the opposite goal post and bounce out in the 87th minute. It looked like a sure goal as it zipped past the goalkeeper.
