EUGENE, Ore. – Sophomore Midfielder Stevie Harrison had a huge game for the NCU women’s soccer team on Friday, assisting on a goal and scoring the game-winner as the Beacons topped The College of Idaho for the first time in school history, 2-1.
It was the Yotes, however, that drew first blood. In just the ninth minute, Shea Yuma found Katy Radko off a deflection and the sophomore punched in the open look.
The Beacons responded in the 33rd minute when a through ball from Harrison found Nikki Webster who put away the score into the top left corner of the net. The game remained tied heading into the second half.
The chess match continued after the intermission until the 83rd minute. Mishayla Bertelsen sent a pass into the top of the box where Katelyn Partridge got her head on it, sending it to Harrison. Harrison got in behind the last defender and was able to beat the Yotes keeper one-on-one.
The College of Idaho (1-4-1, 0-1 CCC) ended up holding an 11-6 advantage in shots while collecting five unsuccessful corner kicks. Melissa Holmes-Joseph ended the night with one save on just three shots-on-goal by NCU.
More history was made by NCU on Friday night when freshman goalkeeper Katherine Ebner became the third Beacon of the season to pick up a victory. No Northwest Christian team has ever had a trio of goalies earn victories in a single season. Ebner made five saves in the contest.
The Beacons will be back in action on Saturday when they play host to Eastern Oregon at 4:00 pm. The College of Idaho travels to Salem to take on Corban University.
