EUGENE, Ore. – 110 minutes of soccer resulted in a scoreless tie on Thursday night as the Northwest Christian University women’s soccer team played host to George Fox. The Beacons move to 1-1-1 on the season while the Bruins are 0-1-1.
The Beacon defense survived 23 shots, including 11 on goal as freshman goalkeeper Kristin Fulbright had a sensational night, recording eleven saves as she registered her second shutout in three games.
Head Coach Brett Bentley said, “Today in our pregame we discussed that after giving up three goals to Willamette, our goal today was to get the shutout, to first and foremost to be a strong defensive team. When this group commits to playing a strong defensive game, we always give ourselves a chance to win it. Kristen came up huge in the goal for us tonight.”
The Beacons were out-shot 23-5 in the match, coming up with five shots of their own, including shots on goal from Mishayla Bertelsen and Katelyn Partridge.
George Fox keeper Ally Swanson, a high school club teammate of Fulbright, recorded her own shutout, needing to secure just two saves. The Bruins scattered their eleven shots on goal among eight players, getting three from Ashley Baugh and two from Michelle Young.
Northwest Christian will be back in action on Saturday when they play host to Pacific University at 1:00 pm.
