Eagles' Cold Shooting Spells Defeat to SMU

LACEY, Wash. – A cold shooting night for Northwest University spelled a 68-30 defeat at the hands of St. Martin’s University tonight in a non-league game. Northwest would convert 4 of 23 shots in each half for 26% shooting for the game.

Northwest was within two, 12-10, 9 minutes into the first half, but the Saints would heat up and go on a 20-3 run to pull away and lead 33-13 with 4:26 to go in the half. Jenna Lewis would hit a jumper with 2:21 to go to make it 32-15, but St. Martin’s would outscore the Eagles 18-4 to grow their lead to 50-19 at the half.

The Eagles would be plagued by cold shooting in the second half as well as they could not make up any ground on the Saints. SMU hit 37% of their shots in the game and shot 50% from the 3 –point line.
Alivia Johnson led Northwest (4-3) with 7 points while Domi Mendezona contributed 6 points for the Eagles. St.  Martin’s out rebounded the Eagles 38-31.

St. Martin’s (3-1) had five players in double figures on the night led by Angela Gelhar’s 14 points. Three players finished with 11 points: Chelsea Haskey, Jordyn Richardson, and Clara Pedroni. While Liz Mills dropped in 10 points.

The two teams will meet again in Bellingham next week in the Western Washington tournament on Nov. 29 at 12:00 p.m.
