ASHLAND, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University women’s basketball team picked up their first loss of the season on Saturday, falling to California Maritime Academy 76-67 to close out the Southern Oregon University Tournament.
NCU (1-1) was playing from behind for most of the night and after keeping the game to within just a few points, lost the free-throw battle in the closing minutes as the Keelhaulers pulled away. The Beacons shot just 2-for-19 from three-point range and were out-rebounded 42-37 in the game.
Cal Maritime (1-1) shot 40% from the field and was led by 23 points from Javlier Brantley. Shante Sands and Tatjana Pitts added 12 points each in the win.
The Beacons were led by Tami Brown (pictured), picking up her second double-double in as many nights with 18 points and eleven rebounds. The senior shot 8-for-13 from the field. Hannah Frederick had another big scoring night with 17 points, adding four assists and three steals while Allie Kelsey scored eleven points and three steals. Andrea Gloss led all players with three blocked shots.
Head Coach Liz Turner-Bolton said, “We had our chances today. We had great distribution of shots, unfortunately they just didn’t fall.”
NCU will return to action on Wednesday as they continue their road-trip in Redding, California against Simpson University. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
