Oregon Tech Can't Hold Early Lead, Falls to Concordia
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Controlling the attack early, Oregon Tech jumped on top of Concordia 1-0 inthe 12th minute. The Cavaliers then scored 3 unanswered goals to win 3-1 Wednesday night at Trevor Derrah Field. Oregon Tech slips to 1-8 in CCC play and 2-11 on the season with the loss. Concordia improves to 8-4 on the season and 7-2 in CCC play with the win.
Casey Oltman took a pass from Colton Gytness after a 35-yard sprint past the two Cavalier defenders, Oltman beat the goalkeeper to score his second goal of the season.
Oregon Tech outshot Concordia 5-2 and generated a 5-0 edge in corner kick opportunities through the first 20 minutes of play.
The Cavs finally broke through in the 26th minute when Ken Bodzewski took a deflection and scored into the back of the net for his first goal of the season and the Concordia equalizer.
Timur Zhividze single handedly put the match out of reach with back-to-back goals to bookend the two halves. Zhividze turned on a Sam Carmichael cross in the 40th minute to give CU its first lead of the night. Zhividze came back to start the second half by completing a Ben Culpan pass with an attempt from 18 yards out, giving him his team-leading sixth goal on the season.
Overall, Concordia outshot OIT 22-14 in the match. Mitch McCaw stopped three shots on goal to pick up the win between the pipes.
Tech’s freshman keeper James Goheen had another good effort facing 22 shots with 4 saves in picking up the loss.
Oregon Tech will host Corban University Saturday at 1:00 pm at Trevor Derrah Field.
Concordia’s win sets up a Saturday showdown with Northwest University with first place in the CCC standings on the line. The two clubs share 7-2-0 records in conference play and will square off at noon in Kirkland, Wash.
