Hot Shooting Mountaineers Down Northwest

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team forced 24 turnovers and shot 62 percent from the floor in a, 94-49, victory over Northwest University on Saturday evening at Quinn Coliseum.
 
Airshay Rogers and Kassy Larson led the Mountaineers with 15 points apiece. Jordan Klebaum and Nikki Osborne followed with 12 points each. Klebaum also recorded seven steals in the contest. Chanara Green led the Eagles with 10 points.
 
The Mountaineers' offense got off to a slow start as they fell behind early, 4-0, in the first minute and a half of the contest. During the stretch, the Mountaineers missed two shots and committed two turnovers.
 
Once EOU got their shots to fall they never looked back. Larson put the Mountaineers on top, 15-4, after hitting a jumper in the paint. Klebaum helped extend the Mountaineers' lead to 17 points, 25-8, after she hit a three-pointer.
 
Eastern Oregon grew their lead to as many as 22 points in the first half before the Eagles looked as if they were making a run. Northwest cut the Mountaineers lead down to 15, but EOU responded and extended the lead back to 20 points, 39-19, going into halftime.
 
The Mountaineers' shooting stayed hot in the second half, as EOU shot 75 percent from the floor and held the Eagles to 36 percent.  Starting the half, the Mountaineers and Eagles traded baskets and with 14:43 left in the game, EOU led by 18 points, 52-34.
 
With the lead at 18, EOU went on a 26-4 run that was capped by a Rodgers layup. With 6:49 left in the game, EOU led by 39 points, 78-39.  EOU extended their lead to 49 points before coming away with a 94-49 victory.
 
The Mountaineers return to action on Saturday, Dec. 13 when they travel to Lewiston, Idaho to play Simpson University at 2 p.m.  Northwest returns to action on Dec. 12th against Pacific Lutheran University.
