Concordia's Washington, Moore Set School Records at Boise State

NAMPA, Idaho—In one of the final tune-ups before heading to the NAIA Indoor National Championships, Concordia added a trio of new automatic qualifiers while sprinter Andre Washington (Vancouver, Wash./Hudson's Bay H.S.) and thrower Darien Moore (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield H.S.) established new school records at the Boise State Team Challenge on Saturday.

With a school record 22.16 which gained an NAIA 'A' entry, Washington led a contingent of strong results in the short sprints. In addition to Washington's record run, Chris Zeller (Portland, Ore./Reynolds H.S.) crossed the line with a 22.57 and Eric Tolento (Salem, Ore./McKay H.S.) in 22.79 for the school's No. 2 and No. 3 all-time marks. Tolento's time slashed .11 off his previous collegiate best at the distance while Zeller was making his Concordia debut in the event.

Moving to the 60, freshman Carlos Ortiz (Salem, Ore./North Salem H.S.) matched his own school record, taking a 7.03 in the prelims before settling for a 7.10 and a fourth-place finish in the finals.

Opening his 2014 season, Jasen Brown (Brewster, Wash./Brewster H.S.) uncorked a 2:30.12 in the 1,000-meter run to safely earn an automatic mark while Demetrius Rhodes (Portland, Ore./Benson Polytechnic) finished at Brown's side at 2:30.21 to improve upon his collegiate best.

Crossing over to the shot put, Darien Moore (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield H.S.) and Nate Moses (Fresno, Calif./Bullard H.S.) led a 2-3-4-5-6 finish by Cavalier throwers. Moore easily topped his season best with a 60-2 (18.34m) effort which should place the transfer into the national lead in the event. Missing out on season bests, Moses and Zach Lake (Tacoma, Wash./Mt. Rainier Lutheran) placed third and fourth, respectively, with 54-6 (16.61m) and 50-4 3/4 (15.36m) performances amongst the series of attempts.

Joe Hall () (49-2 1/4, 14.99m) and Adam Riddle (Fox Island, Wash./Gig Harbor H.S.) (46-0, 14.02m) closed out the string of CU shot putters.

Already the school record holder in the weight throw, Moore obliterated his previous season best with a 65-10 1/2 (20.08m) launch, adding more than a foot to his earlier record.

Clowes Inches Closer to 4-Minute Mile

SEATTLE—Clocking a 4:03.78 in the mile, Concordia's Matthew Clowes (Stoke-on-Trent, England/Westwood College) dropped almost a full second off his school record while competing at the University of Washington Husky Classic on Friday.

Clowes, who already owned the NAIA's top time in the event, placed fourth in his section of the invitational mile with University of Mississippi's Sean Tobin leading the pack with a 3:59.91.

Clowes also competed in the 3,000, pacing his way to a 8:25.88 on Friday after recording an 8:04.52 in the event two weeks ago on the same track.

With a 15:12.21, freshman Eric Alldritt (Bend, Ore./Summit H.S.) earned an NAIA provisional mark in the 5,000-meter run. Alldritt's time ranks No. 5 on CU's all-time performance list while registering as the NAIA's No. 24 time.
