PORTLAND, Ore. – One steal away from a triple double, Southern Oregon's Allison Gida led the Raiders to a 91-84 win over Concordia inside Cavalier Gymnasium on Saturday.
Gida tied a Southern Oregon (23-7, 12-6 CCC) record with nine steals that made way for 23 points on 10 for 16 shooting. In addition, Gida grabbed a career high 15 rebounds to help the Raiders to a near wire-to-wire road win.
After a bucket by SOU's Carly Meister opened the game's account, Concordia (7-23, 4-14 CCC) retaliated with a jumper from
Kelly Huey (San Francisco, Calif./Lincoln H.S.) and followed up with another make by
Sarah Letourneau (Glendora, Calif./Glendora H.S.) to bring the score to 4-2 in favor of the home team.
Ashley Clausen and Kristen Schoenherr made the Cavalier lead a short-lived experience with back-to-back 3-pointers which led to a 10-6 advantage.
The lead swelled to 15 (34-19) on free throws by Brenna Anderson with 3:20 to play, but moments later, a 3-pointer by
Alicia Love (Bend, Ore./Mountain View H.S.) brought the Cavs back within striking distance, this time down eight with the score 34-26.
The waning moments of the half, however, belonged to the Raiders as SOU scored 13 straight in the last two minutes of the first half. All part of the spree, Gida hit three jumpers and had two steals that led to additional baskets for a 47-26 lead at intermission.
Hitting 7 of 13 from behind the arc, Concordia slowly clipped away at the spread in the second half to finish the contest with the seen-point loss.
All five starters scored in double figures for the Raiders with Claussen and Autumn Durand following Gida's big day with 14 points each.
Concordia was led by senior
Kelly Huey (San Francisco, Calif./Lincoln H.S.), who had 21 points and five rebounds in the loss.
Briannah Smith (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) and
Janae Klarich (Granger, Wash./Granger H.S.) chipped in with 14 and 12 points
off the bench.
The Raiders tied with College of Idaho for third place in the CCC standings but lost the tiebreaker. As a result, WOU will have the No. 4 seed in the CCC Tournament and host No. 5 Evergreen State (14-11, 10-8) on Tuesday in the quarterfinals at Bob Riehm Arena. Tipoff will be at 7 p.m. against the Geoducks, whom SOU swept in the regular season.
