Day One of 2014 NAIA West Grouping Tournament in the Books
VANCOUVER, B.C. – A number of solid pitching performances highlighted day one of the 2014 NAIA West Grouping Tournament presented by U.S. Bank on Friday at Thunderbird Park in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Game One – Menlo 9, College of Idaho 4 - Box Score
A pair of three-run innings was enough to propel Menlo to victory as the Oaks held off College of Idaho for a 9-4 win in the tournament’s opening game. Designated hitter Sam Shipiro lead the Oaks with three RBIs, despite going just one-for-four from the dish. Daniel Chavez earned the win, scattering seven hits over 6.0 innings pitched with three strikeouts. Taylor Nicholson took the loss for College of Idaho, allowing six runs on eight hits in 6.0 innings pitched.
Game Two – Corban 2, Concordia 1 - Box Score
Corban ace Jacob Kopra threw a complete game to stay perfect on the year at 10-0 and Daniel Orr scored twice as the third-seed Warriors held off the second-seed Concordia Cavaliers, 2-1. Kopra allowed just five hits with one strikeout in 9.0 innings pitched. CU starter Jason Snodgrass had a strong showing despite taking the loss, allowing the two runs on nine hits in 8.0 innings pitched.
Game Three – British Columbia 3, Menlo 0 - Box Score
A lone run in the top of the first and two more insurance runs in the top of the ninth was enough to give the host Thunderbirds a win as top-seed British Columbia blanked Menlo, 3-0, in the final game of the day. UBC designated hitter Tyler Enns was three-for-four with two RBIs while starter Conor Lillis-White went the distance, allowing just seven hits and striking out seven to earn the complete game shutout.

The champion of the 2014 NAIA West Grouping Baseball Championship presented by U.S. Bank will earn the conference’s automatic selection to the NAIA Opening Round.
