OLYMPIA, Wash. – Junior transfer
Kenzie Phillips scored twice as the Evergreen Geoducks opened up 2014 on a winning note, earning a 4-1 win over the visiting UBC Okanagan Heat in a non-conference women's soccer match on Saturday morning at Geoduck Pitch in Olympia, Wash.
Freshman
Amy Bromley opened up the scoring in the eighth minute as
Delaney Smith sent in a cross and Bromley dribbled up the right side before firing across UBCO keeper Francesca Baletta for the 1-0 lead.
The Geoducks made in 2-0 in the 30th minute as Phillips chipped in a long ball from about 30 yards out and the shot snuck right under the crossbar for the two-goal halftime lead.
Evergreen made it 3-0 in the 54th minute as
Vanessa Zamora sent in a great ball to
Katie Hebein, who delivered from 12 yards out for her first goal of the season.
After UBCO scored in the 79th minute on a goal by Mairi Horth, the Geoducks extended the lead in the 81st minute as Phillips scored her second goal of the season and the game to wrap up the 4-1 victory.
While the Geoducks were taking care of business on the offensive end, keeper
Kyla Kitts took care of business in goal, making 14 saves to collect the win.
Evergreen is back in action on Aug. 31 when they travel to Big Sky country to take on Carroll in Helena, Mont.
