Golden Goal Lifts Eagles Past Owls in CCC Opener
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Taylor Young scored the golden goal in the 6th minute of overtime lifting Northwest University(1-0 CCC, 5-0) to a 3-2 win over Oregon Tech(0-1 CCC, 1-4) in the Cascade Conference opener for both teams Tuesday afternoon at Steen Sports Park.
Northwest jumped out to the early 1-0 lead as Todd Siedenburg took a Brendon Wheeler cross from just outside the 18 and scored in the eighth minute.
Oregon Tech answered as Grant Alexander took a rebound off a Colton Grytness shot and scored from 7 feet out to tie the game just before the half.
The Owls would grab the lead in the 52nd minute as GeRysand Cabanilla sent a perfect pass across the box, Luis Valdez headed the ball into the lower left of the goal for the 2-1 lead.
The Eagles quickly answered, Jacob Weaver took a ball just past mid field, dribbled past a Tech defender then beat the keeper to tie the game in the 60th minute.
Good defense by both teams kept the game knotted up 2-2 at the end of regulation.
In overtime, Taylor Young scored his 5th goal of the season scoring from 10 feet out into the bottom right of the goal off a great pass from Kyle Zimmerman.
For the game, Northwest had a 26-16 edge in shots and a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal.
Oregon Tech will travel to Caldwell, Idaho this Saturday, September 20th to continue CCC play.
Northwest will travel to Olympia, Washington to play Evergreen State also on Saturday.
