Yotes Hold Off Owls 3-0
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore – College of Idaho evened its Cascade Conference record at 2-2 Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over Oregon Tech at Trevor Derrah Field at Steen Sports Park. With the win the Yotes move to 5-3 on the season. Oregon Tech drops another close game and slips to 0-4 in CCC play and 1-7 on the season.
Luis Gomez gave the visitors the early 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute as he took a cross from Nate Hunt and scored from just inside the 18 into the lower left of the Owls’ goal.
Tech missed a golden opportunity to tie the game just 30 seconds later when C of I was whistled for a foul inside the box giving the Owls a Penalty Kick. Tech’s Colton Grytness was turned away on the PK attempt by a nice play by College of Idaho Keeper Grant Billings.
The Yotes put together another run; this time John Fronk found Joseph Bolin behind the OIT defense. Bolin beat the Tech Keeper from 20 yards out to give C of I a 2-0 lead in the 31st minute.
Tech came out of the halftime break with purpose, just missing on several good looks to get back in the game.
The Yotes put the game away in the 81st minute when Riley Smith took a loose ball, dribbled past a Tech defender and scored from just outside the right corner of the 18.
For the game College of Idaho held a 21-14 edge in shots with a 11-6 advantage in shots on goal.
The Owls will look for their first CCC win next Friday, October 3 against Northwest University in Kirkland, Washington. College of Idaho will travel to Evergreen State and face the Geoducks in Olympia, Washington.
