Vandenbrink Leads Oregon Tech to 67-58 Win Over Evergreen State
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Ashleigh Vandenbrink netted a career-high 21points and the Owls held off a late Evergreen rally to secure a 67-58 win tonight at Danny Miles Court in Cascade Collegiate Conference women’s basketball action.
Oregon Tech improved to 16-4 overall and 5-3 in the conference standings. Evergreen State fell to 8-6 on the season and 2-5 in CCC play.
Vandenbrink scored eight of Tech’s first 10 points to give the Owls a 10-4 advantage to start the half. A Vandenbrink triple at the 6:50 mark pushed the Owls out to their largest margin in the first half, doubling up the Geoducks, 26-13.
Evergreen State next managed a 10-0 run over the next three minutes and cut their deficit to 26-23. Randi Boseman connected on a short jumper, while Uriah Thomas capped the run with a free throw.
The Owls would move up by five points on Megan Whetstone free throws with 2:20 to play, but once again Evergreen battled back to take a lead, 31-30, on a pair of Sadee Jones freebies.
Vandenbrink continued her hot shooting, knocking down a trey with six seconds on the clock to regain the lead, 33-31, at the break.
The second half saw Evergreen tie the contest at 35-all, but the Owls registered their first double digit advantage, 45-35, on another Vandenbrink score with 13:22 to play.
Tech pulled away to lead by 16 on three occasions, the last coming on a pair of Tess Armstrong free throws with 5:49 on the clock.
Evergreen managed to cut their deficit to five points with under a minute on the clock, but four-straight free throws from Carrie Thibault sealed the win for Tech.
Vandenbrink grabbed four rebounds to go with her game-high 21 points with Tess Armstrong adding 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists in the win. Carrie Thibault recorded 10 points for the only other Owl in double-digits.
Karina Gee led Evergreen with 11 points, followed by 10 each from Natasha Trinidad and Sadee Jones. Jones recorded a double-double after grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds in the loss for the Geoducks.
