ASHLAND – With the first half of Cascade Conference play nearing a close, the 16th-ranked Southern Oregon women's basketball team showed more signs of catching fire offensively Saturday night at Riehm Arena.

Alexi Smith (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) had 22 points and seven rebounds, leading five players in double figures as the Raiders hung a 110-74 win on Northwest (Wash.). Ashley Claussen (Scotts Valley, Calif./Santa Cruz) posted her first double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 assists, coming one short of a career high in the latter department.

The Raiders (15-2 overall, 5-2 Cascade Conference) shot 58 percent for the game (41-for-71) and turned what was a 20-all tie with eight minutes gone into a 57-37 halftime lead, going first on a 14-2 run and then ending the frame with a 16-4 spurt.

Claussen helped expand that lead in the second half with three 3-pointers and five assists in the first five minutes.

Northwest lost for the fifth time in six games, going to 9-8 overall and 2-5 in the CCC.

SOU has hit the century mark four times this season, and the 110 points are the eighth-most in program history.

The Raiders, who have won 11 straight at home, were lifted by Courtney West (Sydney, Australia/Port Hacking)'s 18 bench points and eight rebounds, Carly Meister (Elma, Wash./Elma)'s 14 points, seven boards and three blocks, and Autumn Durand (Onalaska, Wash./Onalaska)'s 11 points and two steals. All five Raiders who hit double figures made at least half of their attempts.

Led by Kristen Schoenherr (Rainier, Wash./Rainier)'s nine rebounds, the Raiders also had a 52-30 rebounding advantage.

Northwest was paced by Charmaine Bradford's 18 points and five assists. Jordan Asher had 14 points, but the Eagles were held to 39-percent shooting.

Three straight Raider opponents have failed to reach 40 percent.

Short two regular rotation players, SOU still got baskets from 10 different individuals. Along with West's 7-for-12 showing, Tiani Bradford (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City) and Kristin Smeaton (Dillingham, Alaska/Dillingham) both hit two shots off the bench. Bradford also had five assists, giving her 11 on the weekend.

Smith was the headliner, though, going 9-for-11 from the floor. After going for a career-high 26 points last Friday at Northwest Christian, she'd been held to 13 total points in her last two games before again breaking out.

SOU, which is a half game back of Eastern Oregon in second place, resumes play next Saturday at rival Oregon Tech (16-4, 5-3).
