EUGENE, Ore. – For the second straight game the NCU single-game steals record was broken as the Beacons collected 20 swipes on their way to a 104-60 win over Northwest Indian College on Saturday morning.
The Beacons forced the Eagles into 34 turnovers, out-rebounded NIC 54-33 and shot 53.3% from the field as everything was clicking once again. NCU also posted back-to-back 100-point games for the first time in at least 13 seasons, dating back to when accurate records are available.
NCU had six players in double figures including a game-high 17 off the bench for Jay Mayernik who posted his second straight double-double with 11 rebounds. Javonte Byrd added 16 points and five steals while Kenny Blackwell scored 15 points, four assists and three steals.
Austin Kuemper scored 13 points and was joined in the double-digit crew by Remi White (12 points, 9 rebounds) and Jack Hackman (11 points).
Northwest Indian (0-2) shot 31% from the field, led by a 12-point night by Mike Schjang. Sonny Sylvester added 11 points off the bench and Kavaris Lane scored ten from the pine as the Eagle reserves out-scored their starters, 33-27.
The Beacons (2-0) will continue their season in two weeks, traveling to face Portland Bible College on October 23 at 7 pm. NCU defeated the Wildcats at home last season, 82-52.
