SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The 11th-ranked Corban University men's soccer team won on Saturday night on the road against Northwest Christian University, 3-0, extending its school-record start to the season while remaining unbeaten on the year.
Corban moves to 10-0 overall on the campaign and remains the last unbeaten team in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC).
Warrior junior forward Nathaniel Cheney (Clarkston, Wash.) got the Navy and Gold off to the right start, scoring on a five-yard strike off an assist from fellow junior forward, Quamie Dinnall (May Pen, Jamaica) in the 10th minute. For Cheney, it was his fifth goal of the 2015 campaign.
Despite not scoring again in the first half, the Warriors held the dominant 11-1 shots' advantage.
Corban doubled its lead right away in the second stanza when junior midfielder Armando Guevara(Salem, Ore.) blasted a shot into the goal off another assist from Dinnall. On the year now, Guevara has scored on four occasions, while Dinnall has racked up a team-best eight assists.
Junior midfielder Kemar Prince (Kingston, Jamaica) sealed the deal for Corban in the 78th minute when he connected and put his shot past the goalkeeper after the ball was flicked to him from a long throw from senior defender James Williamson (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho). For Prince, it was his first goal of the 2015 season.
Corban held the shots' advantage on the evening, 19-4, while also recording a 4-2 corner-kicks edge.
The defense once again stood tall and shut down the Beacon attack, recording another shutout to maintain the perfect goals-against-average. Sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Farr (Turner, Ore.) made three saves in the triumph.
Corban (10-0, 5-0 CCC) returns home for a big week of CCC play when it hosts The College of Idaho (5-2, 4-2 CCC) on Friday at 12 p.m., before then hosting No. 15 Rocky Mountain College (10-1, 6-1 CCC) on Saturday at 12 p.m. NCU will host Rocky on Friday at 4:30 p.m. before seeing The College of Idaho on Saturday at 3 p.m.
