Karly LeVeque recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 steals in win over NCAA I Portland State University.
Oregon Tech Rolls by NCAA I Portland State University, 81-69
PORTLAND, Ore. – Four Owls scored in double-digits and Oregon Tech rolled by NCAA I Portland State University in an exhibition contest, 81-69, tonight at Peter W. Stott Center in Portland.
Portland State scored the opening basket, but a Carly McIsaac jumper capped a 10-3 Tech run at the midway point of the first period, doubling up the Vikings, 10-5. PSU, however, managed to tie it at 13-all just two minutes later.
Oregon Tech’s Morgan Roberts next notched back-to-back layups, as the Owls moved ahead 17- 14. Nohea Waiwaiole grabbed her own miss and scored, with the Owls taking a five point lead, 19-14.
PSU’s Michaela Kay, who finished with 18 points in the first half, connected on a triple to close to two, 19-17, with Tech holding a 20-19 lead after the first period.
A Tess Armstrong trey, followed by a McIsaac layup, gave the Owls a 25-19 advantage with 8:05 to go in the second period.
Another Kay triple, to go with a PSU steal and a layup, closed the Vikings deficit to 25-24.
Tess Armstrong scored the next four points, with LeVeque adding a free throw, giving Tech a six point cushion, 30-24, with three minutes on the clock. Waiwaiole and Roberts back-to-back layups gave the Owls a 34-26 lead. Just one minute later a Waiwaiole score put Tech up nine, their largest lead of the half, 36-27.
PSU, on a score by Kay with two seconds on the clock, sent Tech to the intermission with a seven point advantage, 36-29.
A 5-0 run to start the third period helped PSU close to 38-37. A LeVeque triple and a McIsaac layup pushed the Owls to a 43-37 lead at the midway point of the third period.
PSU closed again to a single point, 45-44, but that would be as close as the Vikings would get, and after a Mary Dryzayich 3-pointer, pushed Tech to a 50-44 advantage with 3:00 to go in the period. Tech would close the period on a 12-6 run, giving the Owls a double-digit lead heading into the final period, 62-50.
PSU got to 10, 64-54, but it was all LeVeque from that point, including back-to-back layups, on her 10
th steal of the game, to go up 68-54. A LeVeque triple on the next possession made it 71-56 with 6:04 to play in the game. Waiwaiole scored on the next possession to put the Owls up 17, their largest margin of the game, as the Owls cruised to the 81-69 victory over NCAA I Portland State University.
Karly LeVeque recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 steals. Nohea Waiwaiole tied for team-high honors with 16 points, followed by Tess Armstrong with 13 points and Carly McIsaac 10 points and eight rebounds. Morgan Roberts scored eight points and grabbed nine rebounds while handing out six assists with Megan Whetstone adding nine points and eight caroms in the win.
The Owls connected on 33-of-84 attempts (38.4%), including 5-of-20 from long range and 10-for-15 from the free throw line. Tech held PSU to 39-percent from the field (23-for-59) and outrebounded the Vikings 56-39.
Oregon Tech (2-2) will resume play on November 14 versus Pacific Union College beginning at 7 p.m. at Danny Miles Court.
