TACOMA, Wash. – The Northwest University Eagles put together 20 hits and six home runs in sweeping the University of Puget Sound in a non-conference doubleheader, 8-1 and 10-3 this afternoon.

Game 1 – Kelli Peckham scattered 6 hits as the Eagles broke open for 9 hits including four home runs as they defeated the Puget Sound Loggers 8-1 in the opening game of a doubleheader today. Peckham struck out 7 Loggers as her defense backed her up with errorless softball.

Bethany Bacon opened the scoring for Northwest with a solo shot to center field in the top of the second inning giving NU a 1-0 lead. The Eagles grew their lead to 3-0 in the 4th inning when Savannah Rush homered to center field and Bacon hit her second round tripper of the day to center with two outs.

UPS got one run back in the bottom of the 4th with a 2 out single by Kristi Nagamine.  The Eagles got two more runs in the top of 6th when Darian Godfrey led off with a single and Ricki Tacdol then doubled to left field. Godfrey then scored on a UPS throwing error. Tacdol scored on a fielder's choice putting NU up 5-1.

The Eagles put the capper on the game in the top of the 7th as Godfrey singled through second base and Ricki Tacdol drew a walk. Savannah Rush then hit her second home run of the game on a shot over the left field fence scoring Godfrey and Tacdol in front of her for an 8-1 lead.

Hannah Yelas came in for Peckham in the 7th and closed out the game with three straight outs for the win giving the Eagles a 2-1 season record.
Savannah Rush had a big day for Northwest U going 2 for 4 and knocking in four runs. Bethany Bacon came through with a 3 for 2 day and two RBI's. Rush and Bacon each hit two home runs. Kelli Peckham earned the win striking out 7 Loggers and giving up just two walks.

Game 2 – Northwest U bats stayed hot in the second game as they strung together 11 hits with two home runs and Kierston Perry and Hannah Yelas limited UPS to just 5 hits for a 10-3 victory to improve to 3-1 on the season.

The Eagles got on the scoreboard in the top of the second when Savannah Rush singled center and Bethany Bacon doubled to center putting two Eagles runners on base. Janey Ganta hit a clutch single to right field scoring both Rush and Bacon, giving NU the 2-0 lead.  In the third inning, Darian Godfrey walked with two outs and Ricki Tacdol stepped up to the plate and hit a two run shot to left field making it 4-0 NU.

Bailee Larson led off the bottom of the 4th with a solo home run for the Loggers, but would then go down 1, 2, 3 the remainder of the inning.

Savannah Rush would hit her third home run of the day as she hit a one out bullet over the right center field fence in the top of the 6th to put NU up 5-1. The Eagles exploded for five runs in their half of the 7th inning when Courtney Gain led off the inning with a single, Janey Ganta followed with a double to right and Katelyn Riedinger knocked in Cox and Ganta with a clutch double to center. Riedinger then scored on a UPS throwing error.  Godfrey doubled to center scoring Katelin Lewis.  Ricki Tacdol then stepped up and singled up the middle driving in Godfrey putting NU up 10-1.

The Loggers got two runs back in the bottom half of the 7th inning, but that would be it as the Eagles would complete the sweep of the Loggers in the second game, 10-3.

Ricki Tacdol went 2 for 4 with a home run and 3 RBIs for Northwest U (3-1) while Savannah Rush was 2 for 4 with a home run and one RBI. Janey Ganta went 2 for 3 with two RBI's as Kierston Perry would go four and a third innings giving up just three hits to pick up the win. Hannah Yelas came in to relieve Perry and pitched two and two thirds innings giving up two hits and two runs. Kayla Andrus took the loss for UPS (0-6)
