KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – No. 16 Warner Pacific used a 12-2 run at the midway point of the second half and pulled away from Oregon Tech by an 82-70 decision in Cascade Collegiate Conference men’s basketball action.
 
Oregon Tech fell to 13-15 on the season and with a 6-12 record in the CCC standings finished in eighth place.  The Owls, the CCC eight-seed in the postseason tournament will travel to top-seed College of Idaho for the first round. 
 
WPC improved to 24-6 on the year and 14-4 in conference play, good for third place in the CCC standings.  The Knights will host six-seed Corban University in the CCC tournaments opening round.
 
WPC jumped up 7-0 before Tech’s Kyle Waits scored the Owls’ first basket three minutes in.  Coletun Tarr gave the Knights its first double-digit lead at the 9:41 mark of the first half extending their advantage to 11, 37-26, with 1:44 on the clock.
 
A Sherman Simpson layup and back-to-back free throws closed out the scoring for the home team with the Owls trailing 37-30 at the intermission.
 
With the Knight up nine, 39-30, with 18:55 to play, Oregon Tech outscored the visitors 19-9 over the next five minutes taking their first lead of the contest, 49-48.
 
Earl Jones, however, scored on WPC’s next possession and the Knights held the lead to the end.
 
The Owls trailed 57-56 with 9:02 remaining, but from there the Knights methodically pulled away to earn the 82-70 win.
 
Oregon Tech’s three seniors, playing in their last game at Danny Miles Court, combined for 36 points led by a team-high 17 from Brandon Bautista.  Kyle Waits added 14 with Josh Johnson adding three and Duncan Schramm two.  Lavar Moore tallied 15 in the loss with Waits grabbing a game-high nine boards.
 
Warner Pacific’s Doug Thomas recorded a game-high 36 followed by a 21 point effort from Earl Jones.  Michael Hall grabbed a team-high six rebounds and Josh Black handed out six assists in the win.
