No. 13 Oregon Tech Powers Past College of Idaho

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech extended its win streak to seven games with a Cascade Conference sweep of College of Idaho 13-5, and 8-5 Saturday afternoon at the OIT Softball Complex. Tech added 4-more home runs and now has 43 on the year, 22 in CCC play, as the Owls sit in first place with a record of 11-2 and 27-8 overall. College of Idaho slips to 13-21 overall and 4-8 in CCC play with today’s results. Game 1 – Oregon Tech exploded for 9-runs on 8-hits including three home runs to break open a 2-2 game in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Ann-Marie Guischer picked up her 8th win in the circle as OIT cruised to a 13-5 mercy rule 5-inning win. College of Idaho took the early 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd scoring an un-earned run. Tech scored twice in the bottom of the 2nd highlighted by a Katie Virtue 2-run triple. The Yotes tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the 3rd as Destiny Turner doubled to score Destiny Campbell who had singled. Tech un-leashed its biggest out-put of the year in the bottom of the 3rd. Tasha Silvius crushed her 9th home run of the year, a 3-run shot to leftfield, giving Tech the 6-2 lead. Then with 2-runners on and 2-out, McKenzie Shrum hit her own 3-run home run to deep centerfield giving OIT the 9-2 lead. Tech wasn’t done. After Tara Moates singled, Tre Sullivan connected on her first long ball of the year to give Tech the 11-2 lead. College of Idaho did not quit as the Yotes had 2-runs in the 4th on 3 singles to make the score 11-4. OIT once again answered with 2-runs in the bottom of the frame on a 2-run home run off the bat of Kayla Prock as Tech won 13-5 after C of I scored a run in the top of the mercy rule shorted game. Virtue led Tech with 3-hits with Shrum, Moates, Silvius, Hoglund and Prock each picking up 2-hits each in the win. Campbell led the Yotes with 2-hits in the loss. Game 2 – College of Idaho out-hit OIT 13-10 but Tech managed to get the win 8-5. Both teams missed numerous opportunities for more runs with OIT stranding 12 runners and C of I leaving 9 runners on base. C of I took the early lead 1-0 on 4-hit but left the bases loaded. Tech tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the 1st The Yotes bats stayed hot in the 2nd inning coming up with 4-hits and 3-runs to chase OIT starter Jessi Duncan from the game with only 1-out. Rylee Carleton entered for Tech, and after giving up an RBI double to Katie Rowe got the next 2-batters to get out of the inning only trailing 4-1. The Oregon Tech offense picked up starter Duncan, scoring 3-runs on 3-hits to tie the game at 4-4 but OIT left the bases loaded. Tech took its first lead of the game in the in the bottom of the 3rd scoring 3-run on 5-hits to take a 7-4 lead. Tech made it 8-4 in the bottom of the 5th on a Moates double. College of Idaho scratched across an unearned run in the top of the 6th on a hit and an OIT errorto make it an 8-5 game but Carleton closed the door to stop the threat in the 6th and put the Yotes down in the 7th to pick up her 8th win of the season
