Olivia Shockley and Kristen LaChapelle both qualified for the CCC Championships in the 10k on Friday night.
MCMINNVILLE, Ore. - The Corban University women's track & field team kicked off the 2015 campaign with a bang on Friday night, heating up as the night went on at the Linfield Ice Breaker. Senior Olivia Shockley (Sweet Home, Ore.) and freshman Kristen LaChapelle (Turner, Ore.) both registered conference-qualifying times in the 10,000 Meters on Friday night, uncorking impressive performances in the first meet of the 2015 season for the Warriors.
Shockley and LaChapelle both ran well for the Navy and Gold in the first official race of the year, clocking solid times for the Warriors. Shockley crossed the finish line first for Corban, registering a 39:55 unofficial time. That mark was just three seconds off of her career best. LaChapelle, competing in her first-ever 10k race on the track, settled into a rhythm during the race, eventually crossing the line in impressive fashion, recording an unofficial 41:55 mark.
Both times meet the conference standard qualifying mark for the CCC Championships that are set to take place in early May.
The rest of the Warrior team opens the 2015 season tomorrow, competing all day at the Linfield Ice Breaker.
