Eagles and Yotes Split in NU's Final Home Stand
KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University and the College of Idaho split their CCC doubleheader with NU taking the first game 10-7 and the Yotes winning the second, 4-2 as both teams came up with late inning runs for the wins. It was Senior Day for Northwest U as they honored four seniors in between games.
Game 1 – Northwest U took a 3-1 lead into the fourth inning after Savannah Rush’s two run home run in the bottom of the third. But, the Yotes came back in their half of the fourth with three runs when Destiny Turner led off the inning with a solo home run over the left field fence. Katie Rowe scored on an NU error with the bases loaded and Alexis Macias came into score on a ground out by Kristin Paulazzo giving C of I a 4-3 lead.
Northwest U answered in their half of the fourth with three runs of their own. Alyssa Gonzalez walked with the bases loaded scoring a run and Ricki Tacdol came up with a two run single through the left side scoring Bethany Bay and Darian Godfrey.
The Eagles added runs in the 5
th and 6
th innings which they would later need. In the 6
th inning, Courtney Cox hit a two run home run and Bethany Bay followed with a solo home run over the center field fence to put NU up 10-4.
The College of Idaho mounted a late inning rally in the 7
th inning as Alexis Macias hit a two out, three run home run down the left field line to make it a 10-7 ball game. NU Pitcher Kelli Peckham was able to get Chelsea Syzmanski to ground out to end the inning and the game.
Peckham earned the win for Northwest U in the circle going the distance. Courtney Cox had a big game for the Eagles going 3 for 4 with three RBI’s and scoring twice. Ricki Tacdol was 2 for 4 with two RBI’s and Janey Ganta was 2 for 3.
For the College of Idaho, Alexis Macias went 2 for 4 with three RBI’s for the Yotes while teammate Destiny Turner was 3 for 4 with two RBI’s. Alex Kordopatis took the loss for C of I going six innings and giving up 10 runs on 10 hits.
Game 2 – A fifth inning run by the Yotes proved to be the game winner as the College Idaho took the second game of today’s doubleheader, 4-2.
NU led early 1-0 after the first inning, but the College of Idaho would score runs in the 2
nd and 3
rd innings to take a 2-1 lead highlighted by Alexis Macias’ solo home run in the third inning. C of I would increase their lead to 3-1 in the top of the 5
th inning when Macias came through again with a two out double scoring Destiny Turner from first base.
The Yotes came up with solid defense in the 6
th to only allow one run as Ricki Tacdol was thrown out at home attempting to score off Janey Ganta’s single. Makayla Scoggins got a pinch hit single scoring Kierston Perry, but this C of I defense got out of the inning with a double play on a fly out by Bethany Bay with left fielder Courtney Ellis throwing out Janey Ganta attempting to score from third.
The Yotes added one more run in the 7
th inning when Destiny Turner and Katie Rowe hit back-to-back doubles scoring Chelsea Syzmanski who had come in to pinch run for Turner.
Northwest U (11-21, 7-17 CCC) Courtney Cox went 2 for 3 while Makayla Scoggins was 1 for 1 with a RBI. Kierston Perry took the loss for the Eagles pitching seven innings and giving up seven hits and four runs.
The College of Idaho (17-28, 8-15 CCC) Alexis Macias continued her solid day with a 3 for 4 effort and two RBI’s giving her a 5 for 8 day with five RBI’s. Destiny Campbell and Katie Rowe were both 1 for 4 with a RBI. Ali Longoria earned the win with Julia Rambo getting the save for the Yotes.
