ROCKLIN, Calif. – The first goal of Allyson Ward (Santa Rosa, Calif./Santa Rosa)'s career was not enough for the Southern Oregon University women's soccer team Saturday afternoon in a 2-1 loss to William Jessup at Jessup Field.

Ward, a senior defensive-midfielder, tied the match in the 49th minute with an unassisted dart from the high left box to the upper-right corner of the goal.

WJU's Amber Deanda gave the Warriors the initial lead when she snuck a shot under the crossbar in the 11th minute, and Celia Rangel got it back six minutes after Ward tied the game when she rebounded Dahlia Rodriguez's miss and scored from 25 feet out. Rodriguez was credited with an assist on the play.

The Raiders went to 0-1-1 on their season-opening road trip. They'll play next at home on Sept. 2 against Simpson (Calif.) and Sept. 3 against Oregon Tech. Both games are scheduled for 6 p.m. starts.

Jessup, which was playing its first game of the year, had the edge in shots (11 to 8) and shots on goal (8 to 7). SOU keeper Kylie Moltzen (Fremont, Calif./Mission San Jose) was credited with six saves.

A potential game-tying attempt by Kelsey Randall (Concord, Calif./Concord) – who was one of six Raiders to put shots on goal – was nixed by Warriors keeper Alison Marlow with four minutes remaining. It proved to be SOU's last clean chance.

The meeting was the first between the programs since 2010. SOU won the first two.
