SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University volleyball team shocked The College of Idaho on Saturday night in the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center, winning for the first time against the Yotes since October 8, 2004 in a thrilling four-set victory (25-27, 25-23, 25-19, 25-16). For the Warriors it is their first Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) triumph of the campaign, and it is also head coach Kim McLain’s first CCC win during her time at the helm of the Navy and Gold.

“I am so proud of this team tonight,” said McLain! “You could tell they were hungry for a win and tired of letting it slip away! The difference was we became a blocking threat and were also able to have a more balanced offensive scheme.”

Stat of the Night: Corban scored 25 points in every set – winning the final three sets by a combined 17 points.

After a competitive first game that saw both sides garner set points, the Yotes (4-8, 2-2 CCC) came up clutch, winning the first stanza 27-25 thanks to a key kill from Kylie Porter.

In the second set, Corban showed that they were not going to back down from this fight, coming back to take a 24-20 lead, and eventually finished the game out 25-23 to tie things up at one set apiece. Corban swung for a great percentage in the set win, hitting at a .387 clip.

After the intermission, the Navy and Gold rode the momentum and dominated in the third stanza, hitting for a .344 mark and winning convincingly by six points. Then in the fourth and deciding set, the Warriors shined offensively, playing maybe their best set of the 2015 campaign with a .483 hitting percentage and a nine-point set victory.

Sophomore outside-hitter Amber Parker (Albany, Ore.) registered a team-best 22 kills on the night, her best mark in CCC play this season. Her attack percentage of .396 was also a season-best mark, and she added eight digs and a pair of assists to go along with it.

Warrior freshman setter Madison McLain (Albany, Ore.) tied her season-best mark with 50 assists on the evening, while sophomore libero Haley Wells (Albany, Ore.) recorded a team-best 16 digs. Adding to the attack and putting in her best performance of the young season was freshman middle-blocker Katy Paratore (Independence, Ore.), as she notched 12 kills on 22 attacks for the Warriors.

Also huge on the night for Corban was freshman middle-blocker Kinley Hickok (Anchorage, Alaska), as she tallied three kills to go along with one solo block and four block assists.

For C of I, Kylie Porter tallied a team-best 21 kills, while Sierra Porter notched a team-best 27 assists.

Corban (3-7, 1-3 CCC) returns to the court on Tuesday when it hosts Northwest Christian University in the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center. First serve is set for 7 p.m. If you can’t make it to the match, be sure to follow along via live stats and the live video feed.
