Oregon Tech Snaps Skid, Downs Southern Oregon 67-51

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech handed No. 11 Southern Oregon University their first loss in Cascade Conference play and in the process snapped an eight-game skid versus the Raiders, winning 67-51 at tonight’s 7th Annual Pink Out event held at Danny Miles Court.
 
Oregon Tech improved to 12-4 on the season but more importantly jumped to 3-4 in the conference standings.
 
SOU falls to 13-4 on the year and sits at 6-1 in Cascade Conference play.
 
Both Oregon Tech and SOU opened to a 9-all tie before Chris Faust scored capping a 13-3 spurt putting the Owls up by double figures, 22-12, with 7:09 remaining in the first half.
 
SOU answered with a 7-0 run and after a Ben DeSaulnier triple the Owls held a slim 22-19 lead with just over four minutes on the clock.
 
Oregon Tech, however, would use the next four minutes of the first period to outscore the Raiders 7-2, including a Lavar Moore bucket at the buzzer to send the Owls to the break with a 29-21 advantage.
 
Tech’s Andrew Weber opened up the second half with a trey from the right wing giving the Owls a 32-21 lead.
 
Jordan West connected from long range drawing Southern to within seven points, with 14:52 remaining.
 
A 3-pointer by Connor Scott gave the Owls a 12 point lead, and after Moore scored on a jumper with 10:30 to go the Owls held a 13 point lead, 49-36. 
 
SOU managed the next four points, trailing by nine at the midway point, but the Owls upped their lead to 19 points, their largest of the game, using a 16-6 burst and held on for the 67-51 win.
 
Joel Yellow Owl notched a game-high 18 points with Lavar Moore adding 15 in the win.  Derek Evans grabbed a game-high nine rebounds and added six points, while Andrew Weber snared eight boards and netted eight points.
 
Oregon Tech finished 28-of-58 (48.3%) overall hitting 6-of-14 from long range and 5-for-10 from the charity stripe.  The Owls held a 45-26 advantage on the boards.
 
Joel Spear finished with a team-high 14 points, eight rebounds and four steals with Jordan West and Clay Sierra chipping in 11 points each. 
 
SOU was held to 16-of-48 (33.3%) from the floor and 4-for-12 from the 3-point line.
